Fathers To Visit Meredith Kercher Murder Suspects

The fathers of two of the suspects held in connection with the murder of British student Meredith Kercher are expected to visit them in jail later.

An Italian court has refused appeals by Amanda Knox and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito to be released from prison.

Knox, 20, and Sollecito, 23, are in custody in Perugia's Capanne prison in connection with the death of Miss Kercher and can be held for up to a year without charge.

Another man, Rudy Hermann Guede, is awaiting extradition from Germany while a fourth person, Diya "Patrick" Lumumba, has been freed but remains a suspect.

Leeds University student Miss Kercher, 21, of Surrey, was murdered on November 1. She had her throat slit and police said there was evidence of a violent sexual encounter.

All four suspects deny sexually assaulting and murdering Miss Kercher.

In an off-camera interview with ABC News, Sollecito's father, Francesco Sollecito, blamed Knox for the entire situation. "She has ruined my son's life," Sollecito's father said. "I damn the day he met her."

Meanwhile Knox's father, William, is said to be "in a state of utter shock and disbelief".

Francesco Maresca, the lawyer representing the Kercher family, said he was "very satisfied" with the verdict and that the family had been informed.

Though Knox has previously admitted being in the house on November 1, she has also denied this and her lawyers now say she was not there.

Sollecito claims he was at home using his computer on the night Miss Kercher died.
